The Ultimate Players Association, the national governing body for the sport of Ultimate Frisbee, will bring 60 teams to Sarasota this weekend to compete in the 2009 UPA Club Championships. This is a culmination of 93 qualifying series events held all over the country that have narrowed it down to Ultimate's best adult teams competing in four divisions: Masters, Mixed, Open and Women's. This 31st annual event has been held in conjunction with the Sarasota Convention and Visitors' Bureau at the Sarasota Polo Club for the past 10 seasons, and with more than 1,500 athletes and thousands of fans, the event brings our economy more than $2.89 million each year. Eighteen of the 20 members of the U.S. National Team that captured gold at the 2009 World Games will be on the field. This will be some serious Frisbee action. Various times Wed.-Sun., Oct. 28-Nov. 1, Sarasota Polo Club, 8201 Polo Club Lane, Sarasota, 907-0000, 303-447-3472 or upa.org, call for cost.
