TODAY’S CREATIVE LOVING PROFILE
When Contact won the 2000 Tony Award for best musical (among other awards) it created a slew of controversy. The show, which is considered a musical "dance play," has minimal dialogue, pre-recorded music and the actors don't sing, all of which added up to Americans wondering, "What criteria constitutes a musical?" Whatever you want to call it, the show was so spectacular that it prompted the Tony committee to create a brand new category for such an occasion. This year, the Susan Stroman and John Weidman production will grace the stage of the Asolo Repertory Theatre. The play consists of three separate stories, all depicting the pursuit of love. Runs through Nov. 22, 8 p.m. Tues., Wed. and Thurs., and 2 and 8 p.m. p.m. Wed., Sat. and Sun., Mertz Theatre, FSU Center for the Performing Arts, 5555 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, 351-8000 or asolo.org, $26-$62.
