TODAY’S CREATIVE LOVING PROFILE
During a period in the late 1940s through the 1970s Sarasota had a thriving art colony that was renowned throughout the country. Painters and sculptors such as Ben A. Stahl, Syd Solomon, Jon Corbino, Thornton Utz, Jack Cartlidge, Julio de Diego, Hilton Leech, Jerry Farnsworth and Helen Sawyer had studios in the area that showcased a seriously impressive variety of fine art. In celebration of this "golden age" of Sarasota art culture the Dabbert Gallery will present A Golden Age of Sarasota Masters, featuring some of the most-well known works from the artists that helped to put Sarasota on the national art scene radar. Opening reception 6-9 p.m. Fri., Dec. 4, exhibit runs through Jan. 28, regular hours are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Tues.-Sat., Dabbert Gallery, 76 S. Palm Ave., Sarasota, 955-1315 or dabbertgallery.com, free.
