TODAY’S CREATIVE LOVING PROFILE
An ongoing project at Main Bookshop reveals an irony about Sarasota residents: Among the secret feelings and deeds that they perceive to be abnormal, that are so different from what's expressed in public, there are striking similarities. Death/destruction fantasies, sexual obsessions, and pining for someone long after they're gone.
In an imitation of the national blog campaign PostSecret, Jenna Dickes at Main Bookshop set up a secrets box, into which customers can drop their anonymous confessions. The shop has closed due to water damage, but when it reopens, they'll be taking begin taking submissions again. We reproduce some of the standouts here:
Honorable Mentions
If it wasn't for heavy metal, I'd be a serial killer. I'm sure of it.
I've cheated on the guy I may marry twice!
I salute the numbers 9/11 every time I see them.
I strongly dislike white people ... and I'm white!
I broke up with my boyfriend to date another guy. Then I broke up with him to get back with my boyfriend. Now I don't like either and I'm dating both but I like another coworker.
I take some kind of pill every day.
I'm 27 and I've slept with more people in the last year than I have before in my whole life. (And it rules! :P)
I want the people I CREATE in my stories to wisk (sic) me away to a world that I have the time to enjoy.
-- & away from him.
